Rackspace Trademark Guidelines

Rackspace US, Inc. and its affiliates (“Rackspace”) consider their brand, service marks and trademarks (“Marks”) among the most valuable strategic assets. Rackspace Marks are extremely important to us because they represent high and consistent quality of the services we provide to our customers, our can-do culture and standards of excellence. Proper use of our Marks is important. To preserve our reputation in high quality services and protect our brand we diligently guard our brand against any violations of our Marks.
The objective of these Guidelines is to ensure that the Rackspace brand and its trademarks/service marks remain reliable indicator of source and quality and that they are protected from inappropriate and unauthorized use
Permissable Use of Rackspace Trademarks
Only parties that have written permission from Rackspace are allowed to use Rackspace Marks in accordance with applicable terms. Provided you have prior written permission from Rackspace, your use of Rackspace Marks must also comply with these Guidelines, in addition to complying with any specific license or usage requirements for use of a specific logo or name.
Rackspace Logos:
Rackspace Corporate Logo
Rackspace corporate logo may not be used to show affiliation with Rackspace, unless you have prior written permission from Rackspace.
Rackspace Customers
Only those customers who have signed a license agreement and had the Powered By Rackspace logo delivered by authorized Rackspace personnel may utilize the Powered By Rackspace logo. Rackspace customers may submit their request by clicking here and fill out our logo request form.
Rackspace Channel Partners
Rackspace channel partners may use the channel partner tier logo only as specified in their agreement with Rackspace and according to the Rackspace Marketing Guidelines for Channel Partners.
Other Third Parties
Other companies cannot use the Rackspace Marks and brand elements, in any medium, without the express written permission from Rackspace. In general, permission to use the Rackspace Marks and brand elements is granted only to companies with whom we have a direct business relationship.
Rackspace Web Badges
We greatly appreciate your efforts in letting the visitors to your website know about Rackspace and our services. You may link to the www.rackspace.com website, so long as your linking is not done in a manner that implies affiliation with, sponsorship by, or endorsement by Rackspace of your website. Linking directly to any other webpage or content within the Rackspace website is prohibited without Rackspace prior written permission. Linking to www.rackspace.com requires your compliance with these Guidelines, the Rackspace Link Logo Usage Guidelines, Rackspace Website Terms of Use, and other Rackspace guidelines that may apply depending upon whether you use one or more Rackspace Marks.
Referential Use, Publications, Seminars and Conferences. Third parties may use the “RACKSPACE” word mark in publications, such as books or magazines, or in connection with the presentations and publications that are displayed to the public (collectively, “Publications”), provided that (i) such use is referential only: you are simply referring to the Rackspace product and services and not speaking for Rackspace; (ii) the Rackspace word mark is not used in an attention-getting or branding manner or in any manner that suggests Rackspace affiliation with, sponsorship of, or endorsement of the Publications, seminar or conference; a disclaimer of sponsorship, affiliation, or endorsement by Rackspace should be included on the Publications and in all related printed materials; (iii) your name or mark and logo shall appear in a prominent location on the cover or the title page of the Publication and shall be featured with greater prominence than the Rackspace word mark; (iv) you comply with these Guidelines and other usage guidelines; (v) you attribute the Rackspace Marks with the proper symbol and footnote it on all Publications as explained below; (vi) you do not apply to register or register any term comprised or consisting of in whole or in part the Rackspace word mark or any confusingly similar mark as trademarks, service marks, corporate names, trade names or domain names, Internet keywords, meta tags, or trigger words to lead to a website or other Internet destination; and (vii) the Rackspace logo or any Rackspace-owned logo, graphic, image or icon does not appear on or in Publication or material related to the Publication, seminar or conference without express written permission from Rackspace.
All reference to Rackspace or use of any Rackspace Marks or name must be accurate, truthful, and not misleading.
Guidelines for Proper Use of the Rackspace Marks
The following guidelines set forth the rules for the display of the Rackspace Marks for permitted uses of the Rackspace Marks under these Guidelines:
Product/service descriptor to follow Rackspace word mark: To the extent use of the Rackspace word mark is permitted, the Rackspace word mark must be used with a descriptive or generic ‘product/ service descriptor’ that follows the Rackspace Mark. For example, “Rackspace® technology,” “Rackspace® hosting services,” "Rackspace® cloud computing,” "Fanatical Support® hosting," “Fanatical Support® customer service,” “Fanatical Support® brand,” “RackConnect™ hybrid hosting,” “Cloudkick™ monitoring tool”
No alterations: When using Rackspace Marks, you shall never vary the spelling, hyphenation or spacing of the any portion of the marks.
Examples of Improper Display of our Marks:
- RackSpace, Rack-space;
- Rack Connect, Rackconnect, Rack-connect;
- CloudKick, Cloud Kick, Cloud-Kick
Examples of Proper Display of our Marks:
- Rackspace®, RACKSPACE®
- RackConnect™, RACKCONNECT™
- Cloudkick™, CLOUDKICK™
You shall never use a Rackspace Mark as a verb or noun or in possessive or plural form.
When using a Rackspace Logo or graphic design, you shall never modify the logo or design, add or delete any words, or change any color or proportion from those set forth in the Logo Usage Guidelines provided to you.
Trademark Notice Symbol: When using the Rackspace Marks, you must use the appropriate trademark symbol (either ™, ℠ or ®) as a notice to third parties of Rackspace’s rights in its marks. A trademark notice symbol must be used in connection with the first and most prominent usage of a mark (e.g. "Rackspace®"). For publications that will be distributed outside the United States, do not include trademark symbols. Instead, use the appropriate trademark attribution notice, for example: Rackspace and Fanatical Support are either registered service marks/ trademarks or service marks/ trademarks of Rackspace US, Inc. in the United States and/or other countries.
A Rackspace Logo must always appear with the notice as provided to you in every use.
Attribution statement: You must make clear that you are not Rackspace and that you do not represent Rackspace. You must also ensure that your use of the Rackspace Marks does not create any confusion as to the source of your products, services and activities and those of the Rackspace affiliates.
All uses of Rackspace Marks must identify the Marks as being trademarks of Rackspace with our standard trademark attribution statement. The following statement must be used in all materials using the Rackspace Marks, including but not limited to websites, publications, splash screens, screenshots or in documentation: “[INSERT PERMISSABLE MARK] [IS A/ARE] either registered service marks/ trademarks or services marks/trademarks of [INSERT THE OWNER: Rackspace US, Inc.; OpenStack, LLC; ] in the United State and/or other countries. We are not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by Rackspace and/or its affiliates.”
A list of Rackspace service marks and trademarks may be found by clicking here. Rackspace may update this schedule from time to time and without prior notice, so we recommend that you refer to the schedule on a regular basis.
Unauthorized Use of the Rackspace Marks
Unauthorized use of the Rackspace Marks or marks that are confusingly similar may constitute an infringement of Rackspace trademark rights and are strictly prohibited. The following are examples of unauthorized uses of the Rackspace Marks:
Use of Rackspace Marks in connection with third party marks: Use of the Rackspace Marks in connection with or as part of your company name, trademarks or logos is not allowed. Do not hyphenate Rackspace with your product name to create a new product name. You may not use or register, in whole or in part, Rackspace, Fanatical Support, Rackspace Logos or any other Rackspace trademarks, including Rackspace-owned graphic symbols, icons or any alteration thereof, as part of your trademark, service mark, company name, trade name, product name or service name. You may not incorporate the Rackspace Marks into the name or logo of your website, domain name, Internet keywords, meta tags, or trigger words to lead to a website or other Internet destination, product, business or service.
Incorporation of all or a portion of a Rackspace Mark into a domain name: You may not register a domain name or use a registered domain name that includes “RACKSPACE,” “FANATICAL SUPPORT,” or any of the marks owned by Rackspace or its affiliates, or any marks that are phonetically equivalent to or confusingly similar to the these marks.
Merchandise items: You may not manufacture or sale merchandising items, including but not limited to T-shirts, mugs, and notebooks, bearing the Rackspace Marks, except as may permitted in a written license from Rackspace.
Damaging Use: You may not use the Rackspace Marks or any other Rackspace-owned graphic, symbol or logo in a manner that disparages Rackspace US, Inc. and/or its affiliates or its technology or damages the brand integrity, including use of the Rackspace Marks in a manner that is, in Rackspace’s opinion, offensive, defamatory, illegal or unethical.
Confusingly similar marks: you may not use trademarks, logos or other content that is confusingly similar to the Rackspace Marks, Rackspace-owned graphics, symbols or any logos.
Variations or abbreviations or combinations with any other marks: you may not use variations, foreign language equivalent or abbreviation of the Rackspace Marks for any purpose.
Endorsement or Sponsorship - you may not use the Rackspace Marks to imply approval, sponsorship, endorsement or affiliation of your company, website, products or services by Rackspace.
Please note that the preceding examples are illustrative rather than an exhaustive list of types of unauthorized uses of the Rackspace Marks. All rights not explicitly granted in these Guidelines are expressly reserved by Rackspace.
Questions and Reporting Misuse of the Rackspace Marks
If you wish to obtain our permission for any uses above or for any other use which is not specifically addressed in these Guidelines or you became aware of unauthorized use of the Rackspace Marks, please contact us by email at legalnotice@rackspace.com and we will contact you as soon as possible. Please note that permission will only be granted under certain conditions and/or subject to you entering into an agreement with us.
